June 2nd Message from Principal Birinyi

Hello Cascadia Families for 2017-18!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
I understand there were quite a few parents who did not receive my message last Thursday. As we make the transition to our new building and new team we need to send messages about next year to the “next year” list. Unfortunately, at this time the system only let’s us pull one email address per student, listed as the “initial contact.” Over the summer once the computer system transitions to the current year we will be able to send messages to both parents. In the mean time, if you are the initial contact please forward to others in your family. I will also be working with the PTA to put any communications up on Facebook and out through the PTA. During the summer, PTA announcements and updates will be available on the school website: cascadiaes.seattleschools.org. Thanks for your understanding and patience as we make the transition!

I was able to tour the school on Friday and the building is beautiful! The building is filled with light coming in the many thoughtfully placed windows. The courtyards and outdoor spaces will be wonderful spots to engage in learning and the classroom spaces are warm and inviting. Our building is mostly finished, just some final touches that need to happen. The playground is still in process and the fields aren’t slated to go in until over the summer. But, we will have a wonderful space to move into come September!
The PTA is looking for a volunteer or pair of volunteers to coordinate the school garden transition to the new Cascadia site. Current volunteers have been working with the district and have identified a site for the new garden space. Our current garden educator, Rowan, plans to continue to provide garden education in conjunction with the third grade staff.
We need someone(s) who can liaise between the PTA, the third grade staff, and the garden educator to help the garden education program take root at the new site. Additionally the coordinator(s) will need to organize work parties to get existing garden infrastructure moved to the new site and any new infrastructure built. Based on past experience, we anticipate a high turnout for families for work parties – we just need someone who can organize them!
All of our third graders receive garden education thanks to a grant from the PTA. To ensure that future cohorts of third graders are able to receive garden education, we need your involvement now!
Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in becoming our new parent-garden coordinator.

Thank you!
